About

I am a certified Emotionally Focused Couple and Family Therapist. I have been working as a social work therapist since 1994 in various settings using different theoretical models and approaches.

Before becoming a therapist I worked as a Registered Nurse in Critical Care and Palliative Care. While providing support and care for individuals, couples and families and observing their interactions in their most important relationships, I became very interested in the relationship between attachment and loss. I chose to return to University and completed a Masters Degree in Social Work.

My primary focus has been working with couples and families with adolescent and/or adult children, using Emotionally-Focused Couple and Family Therapy. This therapeutic approach is supported by solid research, and is particularly effective in helping couples and familes create safety and trust. They learn to understand each other differently, which leads to a deeper, more satisfying connection.

I am a Lifetime Member of the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy (ICEEFT). I am also a member in good standing with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW).

After all, our brain assigns our partner the task of being our secure base, the person we use as an emotional anchor and a safe haven, the one we turn to in a time of need. We are programmed to seek their emotional availability.
